My “Natural” Foundation Routine

Hello everyone! So as some of you know, I suffer from very oily skin. For a while, I stopped using foundation and tinted moisturizers on my face to give my skin a break. I did this for about a year or so. Although my skin has mellowed out quite a bit, I miss my makeup. No, I am not insecure but I feel more put together when I have makeup on for some reason.

If you guys want me to start filming videos of my skin care routines, makeup routines, note taking routines please let me know! I would absolutely love to do that for you all. Just say the word and I’m on it. I will link every single product that I use in my daily routine as well. Let me know if you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

Lately, I have been experimenting with foundation and tinted moisturizers to see what exactly works for my skin and what doesn’t. I think I found out the perfect combination that works for me. After almost 10 years of wearing makeup, I finally cracked the code! For a full, in-depth explanation of my oily skin routine click here

Step 1: Cleanse your skin!

To begin, I wash my face. It depends on how my skin is feeling but I either cleanse it or I exfoliate my skin. I don’t use my Clarisonic, I usually save that for when I am cleaning my skin at night. I usually just put the product onto my (clean) hands and massage it into my face. After I rinse all of the product off my face, I pat it dry with a freshly cleaned towel. I try to keep a clean towel or two off to the side specifically for my face just because I don’t want to wipe my face with a dirty towel.

After my skin is dry, I go in with three products directly aiming for my pores and blackheads. I know it seems like a lot but this genuinely works so well for my skin. First, I use the Clean and Clear deep cleaning astringent. I like to go in with this first because it has salicylic acid in it which helps with reducing blackheads, treating pimples, preventing pimples, etc. Second, I use witch hazel from Biore; This also cleanses my pores but I feel like it adds more power behind thoroughly cleansing my pores. Last and absolutely not least, I use my tea tree oil from The Body Shop.

Step 2: Moisturize

Once those products are applied, I let my skin sit for about 2 or 3 minutes to really dry and settle. When my skin is dry, I go in with the Philosophy moisturizer and apply that to my face. This moisturizer works wonders for me, I can apply it during the day or at night and it will not make my face oily or sticky at all. I absolutely hate when I apply a moisturizer during the day and it makes my face look so oily and sticky. After the moisturizer is on my skin, I wait for about 15-20 minutes before beginning my actual makeup routine. I do this because I want to give my skin a chance to absorb the product before I apply other product on top of it.

Step 3: Prime

After about 15 minutes, it is time to prime my skin. I go in with the Benefit Porefessional primer and apply it all over my skin. I have been using this primer for years and I absolutely love it. It fills in my pores so well and it also doesn’t break me out either!

Step 4: Apply Foundation

Now, it’s time for the good stuff! I take my BB cream from Maybelline and my CC cream from IT cosmetics and I apply it to my face using a beauty sponge. Usually, I apply this by taking little amounts of both and dabbing them all over my face with my fingers, then blending it in with my damp beauty sponge. I blend these two products together because I find that it gives me enough coverage to go through my day without it looking like too much. After that, I go in with the Naked Skin Concealer from Urban Decay and apply this under my eyes, on my forehead, on the bridge of my nose, and on my chin. I do this because it highlights my skin perfectly and it looks very natural. I don’t rely too much on concealer though, if I forget to apply it, I’m not worried.

Step 5: Set your face

It is time to set the face! I use a couple powders for this. First, I use the Maybelline Fit Me loose setting powder to set my entire face. I apply this by taking my beauty sponge with the powder on it and dabbing it all over my face. In my opinion, I feel that when I do this rather than swiping powder on, my face looks better throughout the day. I also apply a little extra under my eyes to let it bake a little bit. After I have applied that powder, I go in with the Too Faced peach blur translucent smoothing finishing powder. I do this because it makes my face look smoother and it gives it the slightest, tiniest glow.

As for my other face products, I use all powders. My bronzer, blush, and highlight are all powers. I refrain from putting cream products on my face if I want a matte look. I usually gravitate toward the cream products when it is warmer out because I want to look dewy. After everything on the face is applied, I spray some setting spray on my skin to set everything. Once the spray has dried on my face, I am ready for my day!

Typically, I am able to pull off this makeup for about 12 hours. This routine is killer for me! Finally I can wear makeup to work or to school without feeling like I have tons of makeup on.
