NFL Opening Night Preview

Packers vs Bears

It’s finally here. We can all finally come out of hibernation. It’s been a long offseason, but the NFL is officially back today. There is no better way to start off a season than with a historic rivalry, Green Bay Packers vs Chicago Bears. Everyone will be looking at the two superstars on opposite sides of the ball here, Khalil Mack and Aaron Rodgers. This matchup is always an exciting one and the NFL did a great job going away from the original theme of the super bowl champion playing on the opening night. I’m more than ready for the NFL to kick off their 100th season.

Green Bay Packers:

Other than the fact that Aaron Rodgers is on my fantasy team this year, we are going to skip over him because we all know how great of a player this guy is. I’m looking for the Packers to have a strong bounce back season from last year.

They are returning an offense that contains Aaron Jones who had an incredible end of the year last year at the running back position. The receiver corps led by Devante Adams will be fun to watch as the Packers have some in my opinion, young studs following the lead of Adams there. Watch out for the Packers offense this year as if they stay healthy, they could be back to the scary good offense they had in the past.

Defensively, I feel like this is where they have always had their question marks. A young group with some potential is what I see in this group. With Rashaan Gary as their 1st round pick, he could be a game changer at the OLB position (jersey native). Another notable name who should have a good year is Jaire Alexander. It’s the Packers first year without Clay Matthews, so that will be weird to see without his blonde hair flying everywhere.

Chicago Bears:

The Bears really turned around their franchise last year with Matt Nagy and Khalil Mack leading the pack. The Bears are known for their scary good defense who for the most part, stayed in tact from last year. I am expecting the Bears to have another strong year hopefully rebounding from that missed field goal to eliminate themselves in their first playoff game.

Offensively, I am expecting Mitchell Trubitsky to take another jump and improve on his game. His first year was shaky, but last year he solidified himself as a starting QB in the league. David Montgomery and Tariq Cohen are going to be one talent running back crew in the backfield. The bears have always been down on WR after losing Brandon Marshall, but Allen Robinson is a leader and will continue to be the #1 on this team.

On the defensive side, let’s skip over Khalil Mack of course as literally no one is going to stop him.  The Bears are stacked all around on the defensive unit. A defensive line led by Akiem Hicks, the LBs led by Mack and young stud Roquan Smith, and the secondary unit led by Ha Ha Clinton Dix and Kyle Fuller. There’s not much else to say here about this defense. They are the best unit in the league and they will be the main reason this team heads to the playoffs for a second straight year.

Although I would like to see the Packers light it up on offense for my fantasy team, I just don’t see it tonight. The Bears defense is too strong and the Packers offensive line will have to work hard to try to protect Aaron Rodgers from the Bears edge rushers. It’s going to be a close one as most of these games are, but my final score here will be:

Bears: 27

Packers: 14

Let me know your thoughts on the game!
